What is Local SEO?
Local SEO is SEO applied to the public located in the geographic area that is of interest to our specific business. Let’s take an example:
A company that is dedicated to car repair in Chicago, are you interested in appearing in the first results in all of the United States? In my opinion, no, what interests you most is appearing in the first positions for people looking for a car workshop in Chicago or that, without explicitly searching for “Car repair Chicago”, are close to the location of said business.
This type of positioning is focused on a specific area and we can verify it, in a practical way, if we search for “Car repair Chicago” on Google:

As we can see we have 2 types of results, at the top the map along with a series of entries geolocated in the area we are looking for or in which we are and at the bottom the organic results. Therefore, and in conclusion, we can say that local SEO consists of improving the positioning of a website in the first section.
Google My Business and Bing Places in SEO
We have Google My Business and, on the other hand, Bing Places. These services allow us to create a business listing with multiple options which, in turn, allows us to boost local SEO. Google My Business is used by Google and Bing Places is used by Bing, Microsoft’s search engine. They do not share a database, therefore, it is advisable that you register with both to improve your local SEO.
